Corduroy Mini Dress

Another chance to play in the leaves! Really, I live for boot weather, so you can imagine my delight. You may have seen this dress before on this blog, but back then it was mid-summer, freezing cold, and I was ill prepared and stockingless in mary-janes. These are my most favorite boots ever! They are simple, over-the knee, flat and comfortable as can be. I'm rather tough on my boots and these have proven to be quite durable; I only wish I found them in black, too! For all of you in the US, I hope you're having a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend, and if you're looking for a deal, there's a 15% off sale in the shop right now. The discount is available to all Iron Orchid Vintage customers, just use the coupon code 'FIGGY' at checkout.

The Herringbone Cape and Burgundy Tall Boots

There's been fresh rain everyday, and while everywhere else seems to be seeing winter, we're just getting around to the pretty parts of fall.  I promised myself that this year I would play more with both texture and pattern combinations. I picked up this cape while on a trip to Hollywood last year, and though it isn't vintage, it's draped cut and herringbone texture has a 70's charm to it.  I wish I caught a good photo of the mutton chop sleeves on the blouse - they are billowy, pleated, and totally bohemian-romantic. Somewhere, Jessica McClintock is weeping over the awesomeness of this full sleeve.

Black and White Gingham Dress

It is cold and wet out here, but I can't wait until summer to show you my new gingham dress! Vintage is a funny thing to shop for, I never really know what I want until I see it. I went out shopping- completely in the mood for something from the 60's or 70's, but the second I saw the soft tuxedo-ruffles, it was love! The fascinator hat was a gift from my mom, it has these beaded, teardrop shapes and a feather that sweeps across it. I'm not entirely sure how I'm, going to wear this dress as I can't seem to pull the crinoline high enough to hide it. It's far too cold to go out without a coat, but the fullness of the dress and crinoline beneath fill the coat out nicely, I think.

Iron Orchid Vintage 48 hour Sale!

Hello!
Iron Orchid Vintage would like to thank you for your patronage. The shop has just had it's 200th sale, and to celebrate we're throwing a '20% Off Sale' for 48 hours only! The sale is on right now, and will end on Friday, November 19th at 2:00am EST.
These photos are 'out-takes' from a shoot I did with my dear friend and photographer Anja Ulfeldt back in April. I posted some of the better ones back then, but thought it would be fun to share a couple more since I just adore that sailor bolero of my mom's.

The 1960's Military Mod Coat

This coat is an absolute dream! I spotted her about a month ago behind the store counter marked as a 'go-back'. Even though it was 85 degrees in the store, I had to try it on. Am I ever glad I did, we were a perfect fit! Over this past weekend, while rummaging through a local antiques store, I found this specimen of a pillbox hat. The veiling is strong and intact, and the bright blue is simply stunning. It will probably make it's way into the shop at some point, but with the military-esque chevrons, and the 'space-waitress' appeal, I had to pair these two together. Oh, and check out the last photo to see the back of this fabulous coat...there's a little peak-a-boo-pleat lined in a bright magenta wool!
