A Simple Vintage Summer Skirt

My lovely sister brought me some bright orange Stargazers she picked up at a local Farmer's Market this weekend, and the simple monotone palette has been influencing my daily wardrobe. Inspired by the simplicity of single color tones, I went with an easy vintage 1970's circle skirt. I've been pretty obsessed with the simplicity of flirty beauties like this lately, and you can expect to see a bunch of full, feminine skirts and dresses (in this vibe, too) making their way into the shop this week.

The Yellow Ribbon Sundress, and a Primary Pop

When I found this dress it was the last in its size, and I crossed my fingers all the way to the dressing room that it would zip up easily. Made of soft and durable cotton, the kind that billows like sheets on a line when you walk, it sustained a super windy day and did not blow uncomfortably high in any strong breeze. The little details, like the metal zipper closure up the back and the grosgrain ribbon trim make me feel like I am actually wearing a vintage dress. Which brings me to the question: How do you feel about vintage reproduction? I think it is a great alternative to the real thing, especially for ladies (and gentlemen, too!) who often have difficulty with the sizing.
A few months ago I remember mentioning that I didn't have a single basic cardigan. Well that has changed! Destined to become a sweater girl, I've made a few basic additions to my closet, but am currently on the prowl for a sweater chain. I saw a girl at the Bettie Page store wearing a vintage one the other week, and I just about shrieked in delight. Speaking of the Bettie Page store (and repro for that matter!), I got some amazing retro pieces there at a very reasonable price. A few of the items will have to wait until winter, but the vintage inspired trousers I could not go home without. Hopefully I'll get around to sharing some photos with you soon.

Red Piping, like a Classic Carnation

I've always been drawn to pieces that feature piping. There's just something about that little detail that I adore playing off of. In this case, I reached deep into the back of my closet and unearthed this lovely pencil skirt. True to form, I added a bright red top and a splash of red lipstick. Keeping my accessories relatively low-key, I opted for this western inspired bow-tie choker, which has an adorable little rose print button in the center. Doesn't the color scheme of the skirt and top remind you of a classic red and white Carnation?

Freshly Laundered Cotton and Menswear Prints

What's the next best thing to a cotton, shirtwaist dress? A cotton, dress-shirt skirt! I know I'm not the only lady who loves slipping on a freshly laundered blouse, but what about this menswear inspired skirt? I just love the preppy vibe of it. A couple of (specific) things that I've been browsing Etsy shops for lately are: 1) A 1950's circle skirt and blouse set, and  2) A 1950's pale blue shirtwaist dress. While I haven't found either in my exact measurements yet, it is kind of nice to get to get my fix out by using pieces already in my closet.

Vintage 1960's Chiffon Dress

I hope you all had a happy Fourth of July! Don't forget that there's a sale on in the shop that ends tonight at midnight. This past weekend I made a trip into the city for a little shopping and brunch. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that every once in a while I enjoy popping into the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus for a light lunch. The glass domed ceiling, which is photographed below, was originally built in 1909 and was salvaged from the demolition of a building only blocks away. The light it produces is enchantingly soft, and soothing - something old world and decadent, too.
I was too shy to take a photograph at the table, but I did have a moment to share a photo of this darling vintage dress that I picked up on Etsy once I got out into the city. In retrospect, billowy chiffon layers were not the best choice for the breezy San Francisco streets, but I just couldn't help myself from wearing this dress out! The teardrop print is a sweet change-up from standard polka dots.
