BonBon Brunette and the 60's Princess Coat

Doesn't this post's title sound like a 1960's cover band? I love it!
Believe it or not, it gets cold around here and although most of my coats are woolen, which do keep me warm and dry, only this one has a hood. I know we're all trained to stay away from piling on a single color, but I couldn't help but enjoy myself in these rich, chocolate browns. This checkered-collar dress is one of those perfect "cold day" dresses, too. It is wool, but soft, and although I always wear a slip, it doesn't have the faintest trace of being scratchy. I hadn't intended on going out in full retro, but after I added the purse, I think I sealed the deal! My color balance on the camera was off as the outside light kept changing from overcast, to cloudy, to sunny. The purse, belt and shoes are all very close in hue. The dress, being a bit more muted and  dark really contrasted well against the trim of the coat. As for me, well I'm a natural bonbon brunette, so I guess I had no choice but to be complicit!

Dress: Vintage 1950's
Shoes: Tahari
Purse: Vintage 1950's borrowed from mom
Belt: Vintage 1980's YSL

Vintage Heritage: The Inaugural Post - Celebrating Black History Month with Vintage Style

One of my favorite things about owning an online vintage shop is that I get to chat with ladies from all walks of life and from around the globe, who share a common love for vintage fashion. As a tribute to the variety of nationalities, ethnicities, and stylish ladies who've shopped at my store, I'd like to start collecting photos from different countries which showcase what styles were like over there, "back then". I'm sure we'll find a bunch of similarities, but if anything, I'll get to showcase a myriad of beautiful women looking stylish.
This monthly feature, entitled "Vintage Heritage", intends to be a quick, multicultural look at fashionable photographs from around the world, and the beautiful garments (and ladies!) that make up our collective heritage of vintage style. In the United States the month of February is dedicated to the remembrance of events and achievements from within the African American community, and is more commonly referred to as "Black History Month". In the spirit of this American celebration, I'd like to open the first "Vintage Heritage" post with a quick look at some photographs of stylish women (some famous some not) from within the African American community, throughout the '30's-60's.
(If I came across this coat, I would never let it go!)
