Easter in the Vintage Pink Polka Dot 50's Dress

Do you have a vintage dress that you just can't wait to spend the day in? This is the first time I'll have ever worn this dress, and I'm tickled (pink!) that the weather is being cooperative enough for me wear it. I wasn't in the mood for a full crinoline today and was a little unsure about what kind of an under-thing would go best, so I opted for a fully skirted slip, which seemed to add just enough volume to keep the dress styleable in a contemporary way. Easter is very casual for us and we haven't got any other plans for the day except for a big brunch with my auntie and cousin, whom I'm so excited to see. There's something about those festive and bubbly polka-dots, though, that makes me wish we were  having an egg hunt.

Trapeze Act

Come springtime, I live for this coat! When it comes to off-the-rack architectural design, I believe that BCBG can do no wrong. With its swinging trapeze cut and retro appeal, it is a marvel that you would find me in anything else. I've often thought to wear a pair of long gloves with it; Wouldn't that just top it off? The coat has a deceivingly grainy, burlap looking knit to it, but it is soft as ever and light as can be. I realize that it can be hard to get a sense for the true color of things when I "analog age" these digital photos, so I've included a few unprocessed images below for your reference. Pardon all the wrinkles on the back of the coat, I had been sitting for hours and didn't think it had a profound effect on the jacket until I saw these photos.

A Classic, One-Button Waistcoat

Neutrals and browns are colors that I'm always trying to add to my closet because they go so well with denim. Today I wanted to maintain a well edited look that was inspired by fit and proportion, but was still comfortable. The waistcoat, with it's chocolate colored piping and single button closure, is slimming at the waistline and a favorite classic staple. The tall brown boots tie the color scheme together and add a fun sort of riding element to the overall look. As you can tell, I didn't have to sacrifice any mobility whatsoever!

Spirit Animal

Yesterday I thought it would be fun to sport a little handbag project of mine. The purse is a revitalized vintage find that was in some need of repair, and the handle is, too! I'm not sure if it was previously attached to a lamp, or if it had served it's time in a Lodge Club, but when I found the handle, it had nails and things attached to it as though it were previously some kind of decor. I'm not one who has ever been attracted to things game related, but since I had this vintage purse which I badly wanted to revamp, and since this weird little discarded wood piece seemed an abnormally perfect fit, I thought they may make a happy partnership -in a second life. I sanded down the handle and gave it a quick rouge polish to give it grainy look, but in the end I think it looks like birch. As for the outfit, the color of things began to follow in suit of the handbag, so complimentary textures were of the essence.

Tertiary Color in The l.a.m.b. Wrap Cardigan

I really do love these slouchy wrap cardigans that seem to be ever popular.  In addition to their versatility, I also rather like the the draping, the movement and the way they float about. On a color wheel, my favorite picks tend to be tertiaries- or colors that are derived from the mixing of one primary with one secondary color. These two tops, which fall under the tertiary category for "red-violet" and "blue-violet", are complex colors, but perfectly complimentary when paired together.

The Ballerina Trench

It was spectacularly windy out, so I didn't really have to spin much to get a few fun photos out of it. This lightweight trench is a dream! I love the full, circle skirt cut of the trench; Would it be beyond ridiculous if I started wearing a crinoline under a coat?  It never fails to add an element of uniqueness, especially to a casual outfit like this.

Trench: Brass Plum (can't read the tag)
