Barrel Tasting Blossoms

It's barrel tasting season out in wine country, and the weather can't be beat! I went out expecting it to be cool and chilly, but I was pleasantly surprised by the all the blossoms in bloom and sunshine goodness! With so much yummy food and libations, I sure was happy to have been in this easy, plaid dress.

The Fringed 70's Bohemian Wrap

Strolling the grounds of a local art residence, we stopped to take photos in this strange little walkway. I guess it's usually canopied in flowers and vines, but in winter the bare stalks look kind of neat! This gorgeous, vintage wrap was the perfect prescription for keeping warm and cozy. I think it may be alpaca, but it's exactly what I've been wanting to add to my closet. It's what to wear when you know you should spend sometime outdoors, but really want to keep that cozied up feeling. While we were on our little walking tour of this villa, a lady told me that she once had a wrap like this in the 70's, but used to belt it around her waist and wear it like an asymmetrical skirt. I just love that idea!

Plaid and Oxfords

Where did the week go? Yes, I'm ready for the weekend, and for some curl-up time on the couch with kitty, but I can't seem to stay indoors when the weather is so nice and sunny out. This dress, by Zara, has  a petticoat built into it, and the shades of heathered browns seemed to match these old favorite Oxfords of mine!

Black Burnout Velvet

I have been fawning over some burnout velvet bohemian beauties on Etsy lately, and just about freaked out when I found this lovely top the other day! You'll seldom see me in all black these days, but for something this dark and mysterious I think the look is a must. By the way, as Google Friend Connect is going away, won't you add me to your Bloglovin' Blogroll? You can do so by clicking on the Bloglovin' icon on the left.

Day 18: Beige and Earth Tones

When the weather gets cold, I always seem to put up a protest. I start looking at my summer dresses, wishing there was some way I could work them into my winter wardrobe. This dress is a semi-sheer, embroidered little thing, but when layered over the right under-dress, it hardly looks as summery as it should.

Day 17: Lifting the Fog in Black and Blue

Around here the fog has been dense and beautiful in the morning. Everything looks surreal and soft. I pulled out this dress thinking that it suited the weather to a fault. I didn't mean to take so long on getting my outfits posted since "Black Friday", but in between traveling and the holiday weekend, it seemed nearly impossible to have a good "sit at the computer and post" moment.

Day 2: Tickets to the Gun Show

A few years back I was on the hunt for a pair of tall, stove-pipe riding boots. I scoured every boot store, country western store and "bit & bridle" sale hoping I would find the pair I had in mind. I never found the boots, but I did pick up this amazing belt buckle. Bonus points, it's got a built in bottle opener on the back!

A Simple Vintage Summer Skirt

My lovely sister brought me some bright orange Stargazers she picked up at a local Farmer's Market this weekend, and the simple monotone palette has been influencing my daily wardrobe. Inspired by the simplicity of single color tones, I went with an easy vintage 1970's circle skirt. I've been pretty obsessed with the simplicity of flirty beauties like this lately, and you can expect to see a bunch of full, feminine skirts and dresses (in this vibe, too) making their way into the shop this week.

The Yellow Ribbon Sundress, and a Primary Pop

When I found this dress it was the last in its size, and I crossed my fingers all the way to the dressing room that it would zip up easily. Made of soft and durable cotton, the kind that billows like sheets on a line when you walk, it sustained a super windy day and did not blow uncomfortably high in any strong breeze. The little details, like the metal zipper closure up the back and the grosgrain ribbon trim make me feel like I am actually wearing a vintage dress. Which brings me to the question: How do you feel about vintage reproduction? I think it is a great alternative to the real thing, especially for ladies (and gentlemen, too!) who often have difficulty with the sizing.
A few months ago I remember mentioning that I didn't have a single basic cardigan. Well that has changed! Destined to become a sweater girl, I've made a few basic additions to my closet, but am currently on the prowl for a sweater chain. I saw a girl at the Bettie Page store wearing a vintage one the other week, and I just about shrieked in delight. Speaking of the Bettie Page store (and repro for that matter!), I got some amazing retro pieces there at a very reasonable price. A few of the items will have to wait until winter, but the vintage inspired trousers I could not go home without. Hopefully I'll get around to sharing some photos with you soon.

Red Piping, like a Classic Carnation

I've always been drawn to pieces that feature piping. There's just something about that little detail that I adore playing off of. In this case, I reached deep into the back of my closet and unearthed this lovely pencil skirt. True to form, I added a bright red top and a splash of red lipstick. Keeping my accessories relatively low-key, I opted for this western inspired bow-tie choker, which has an adorable little rose print button in the center. Doesn't the color scheme of the skirt and top remind you of a classic red and white Carnation?

Freshly Laundered Cotton and Menswear Prints

What's the next best thing to a cotton, shirtwaist dress? A cotton, dress-shirt skirt! I know I'm not the only lady who loves slipping on a freshly laundered blouse, but what about this menswear inspired skirt? I just love the preppy vibe of it. A couple of (specific) things that I've been browsing Etsy shops for lately are: 1) A 1950's circle skirt and blouse set, and  2) A 1950's pale blue shirtwaist dress. While I haven't found either in my exact measurements yet, it is kind of nice to get to get my fix out by using pieces already in my closet.

Vintage 1960's Chiffon Dress

I hope you all had a happy Fourth of July! Don't forget that there's a sale on in the shop that ends tonight at midnight. This past weekend I made a trip into the city for a little shopping and brunch. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that every once in a while I enjoy popping into the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus for a light lunch. The glass domed ceiling, which is photographed below, was originally built in 1909 and was salvaged from the demolition of a building only blocks away. The light it produces is enchantingly soft, and soothing - something old world and decadent, too.
I was too shy to take a photograph at the table, but I did have a moment to share a photo of this darling vintage dress that I picked up on Etsy once I got out into the city. In retrospect, billowy chiffon layers were not the best choice for the breezy San Francisco streets, but I just couldn't help myself from wearing this dress out! The teardrop print is a sweet change-up from standard polka dots.

Black & White Bubble Print, and the Vintage 1950's Bonnet

Summer weather is finally here, and I've been taking every opportunity to step out in a flouncy circle skirt! I'm particularly fond of the bubbly circle print throughout, it reminds me of a fizzy soda, or a vintage newspaper comic strip. I think that next time I wear the skirt, I'll be sure to pair it with a brightly colored top.
Now for my favorite piece of the ensemble. Isn't this hat just the sweetest thing? I couldn't wait for it to arrive in the post! It has this super feminine bonnet bill, and I just know it will be the perfect topper for a 'Gibson Roll' styled 'do.

Easter in the Vintage Pink Polka Dot 50's Dress

Do you have a vintage dress that you just can't wait to spend the day in? This is the first time I'll have ever worn this dress, and I'm tickled (pink!) that the weather is being cooperative enough for me wear it. I wasn't in the mood for a full crinoline today and was a little unsure about what kind of an under-thing would go best, so I opted for a fully skirted slip, which seemed to add just enough volume to keep the dress styleable in a contemporary way. Easter is very casual for us and we haven't got any other plans for the day except for a big brunch with my auntie and cousin, whom I'm so excited to see. There's something about those festive and bubbly polka-dots, though, that makes me wish we were  having an egg hunt.
