Day 4: 80's Paisley Secretary Shirtdress

Today's a "get 'er done" day! I am going to spend the entire day photographing new items for both shops, so I only have comfort (and cuteness!) on my mind. Any tips for Pandora stations that have been nailing it lately? I'm open to all kinds of music, so please feel free to leave a recommendation.

Pink Dress, Tan Boots

The warming weather is bittersweet. I love the sun, but I'm not quite ready to part with my boots and tights. Until I absolutely have to give them up, I guess I'll have to ease my way into spring and summer with some light fabrics and pretty pinks!

"I Go Out Walking..."

Ok, here it is: I'm a karaoke fan, and tonight I'm channeling my inner Patsy Cline! I picked up this black-and-white checkered dress a few months back when I was in LA for my dear friend's baby shower. The organza-like ruffles are super sensitive and have begun to unravel, which I don't quite know how to stop, but I just couldn't resist the twirl and ruffles Before we go out, though, I'm going to get a haircut. Just in case I decide to go shear-happy I thought it best to take a photo in my outfit, but since it took forever to grow out my bob I doubt I'll do anything dramatic...yet.

City Lunch, Sleepy Swan

Visiting my lovely friend Anja, for a quick lunch in the Marina, I decided to snap a few photos of the Palace of Fine Arts. We didn't have time for a photoshoot, but I thought you might like a quick view of the gorgeous columns and the famous dome. One day, I'd like to set up a more proper shoot there, but I did get a quick snap of what I wore. On the waterfront it gets pretty windy and cold, so it's always best to dress in layers. One highlight of the afternoon included getting within inches of a sleepy swan. They are fantastic creatures, and it was neat to see them up close. I think I had forgotten how enormous these birds really are!

I've been on a bad-luck streak with my eyeglasses lately. My most recent pair fell out of my purse and landed under the truck I was in. When we backed over them (they were in a giant bulky hard-case that I normally keep my equally giant sunglasses in), it was like we had rolled back over a large rock, which was weird because neither of us remembered a bump where we had parked. I got out to inspect what it was that we rolled over, but only found my sunglasses case, the specs themselves were no where to be found. About a few miles down the road a low tire pressure light came on, and when we pulled over to check it out, we found that one of the arms of my glasses had pierced through the tire and had created a hole. The nutty part was that though the glasses were badly banged up, the frames were still there - still in their square shape with both arms attached (minus the lenses)! They were totally unsalvageable for wearing purposes, but can you believe they popped a tire and then stayed attached and intact under the weight of a truck?  If you are in need of some seriously sturdy eyeglass frames, I fully recommend Cole Haan. Long story short, my backup pair went missing and I had to use the backup to the backup pair, aka - a seriously old prescription! They may be DKNY 2002 or something like that, but at least they've got a classic shape that seems to still look good.

Mango

mngo1
Since it's been fairly nice out, I've been flirting with winterizing some of my warm weather dresses. The real cutesy part of the dress is actually the back, which has a vertical cut-out scheme going on. I figured that you really wouldn't be able to see it with me wearing a black, long-sleeved top underneath, so I didn't bother photographing it. I do religiously iron my clothes before going out, but this fabric, which is 100% cotton (but feels like a silk/linen blend), wrinkles so easily. Still, I wanted to share these photos with you because I love the feminine nipped waist, and the deep navy blue.

New Sunglasses and Boots

First off, Happy Groundhog Day!
I have been wanting a new pair of shades for a while, but since they have to be prescription, it's an accessory that I just don't switch up very often. I just adore the cat eye look that has been popular over the past few seasons, and being drawn to sunnies that have a retro or unusual look I was ecstatic when I got these for Christmas. Out of sheer coincidence, I found this strange, nineteen-seventies-esque building with a rock shingled wall that in an odd way had veins of color that seemed to match my outfit. What I wore was simple and casual enough for a post office run and some grocery shopping, but since I had my camera with me I thought I should snap a photo or two and share it.

Blue and Tan

bludrs1
It was a soggy, rainy day yesterday, but I must really love that sort of thing because I'm smiling ear to ear in nearly all of the photos! Yesterday was a TV day, and I couldn't decide between watching the final season of Tudors or beginning Boardwalk Empire. I went with starting Boardwalk Empire, but not before snapping a few photos of the day's outfit. I love this vintage 1970's dress for it's full skirt and textured fabric, not to mention it's easy wear. As a matter of fact, I think the entire outfit ended up taking on a sweet 1970's vibe. Now that I think about it, there is a magenta version of this dress in the shop right now, that matches the pink hue on the belt precisely. I could only find one photo that shows the full side of the belt, but I went with it because in addition to loving bursts of color, the orange in the belt really compliments the tan of the boot nicely.

Day 13: Layering the Plaid Western Trench

Often, I find that when one wears denim it becomes the focal point of the outfit, the item that the rest of the outfit revolves around. I love wearing jeans- a good pair of jeans are a thing to covet, but today I wanted use the denim as a backdrop, something neutral that I could layer over for both comfort and warmth.

The Herringbone Cape and Burgundy Tall Boots

There's been fresh rain everyday, and while everywhere else seems to be seeing winter, we're just getting around to the pretty parts of fall.  I promised myself that this year I would play more with both texture and pattern combinations. I picked up this cape while on a trip to Hollywood last year, and though it isn't vintage, it's draped cut and herringbone texture has a 70's charm to it.  I wish I caught a good photo of the mutton chop sleeves on the blouse - they are billowy, pleated, and totally bohemian-romantic. Somewhere, Jessica McClintock is weeping over the awesomeness of this full sleeve.
